“Fortunately, I know a little magic.”
This week, I chose a lesser favorite character of mine, Ursula. She is truly an all too real Disney villain. Unfortunately, many of us have run into similar conniving personalities in the online business space. 😓
Ursula preys on the weaknesses and desires of others, making her ‘clients’ sign a contract that ultimately rules in her favor. I’ve seen an eerily similar pattern in some recent ways of marketing online and I am NOT a fan. People tend to focus on customer pain points, almost shaming and/or guilting others to desire their services.
While it’s important to understand the struggles of your potential clients, it’s just not right to use these against them. Instead, I choose to celebrate client wins, highlighting what they will get after working with me, and how it will feel to overcome their current struggles.
Have you run into any ‘Ursula-style’ marketers lately?
From now on, when you do – remember this comparison and choose to not feed into their power. (Unlike Ariel)… read the vibes of the room and turn away from signing the negotiable contract if it doesn’t feel right. When you start working with someone, you shouldn’t feel any sense of dread, fear or pain. Instead, make sure it’s exciting and inspiring when you start on a new venture. Your gut will tell you if it’s a good choice.
While I obviously don’t agree with her way of doing business I do love Ursula’s dark witchy vibes. Plus, I’ve always loved her pet eels, Flotsam and Jetsam. 😂
